Sharkfin soup @ Restaurant Oversea, Subang Parade
Last Saturday, I had the luxury of having sharkfin’s soup for dinner. In the Chinese culture, sharkfin is considered a signature dish served at special occasions – it is a luxurious Chinese delicacy since the Ming Dynasty. Read all about it here.
Despite all the controversy over shark finning, I really cant resist the temptation of having pure sharkfin’s soup; not the starchy starchy kinds with crab meat and the rest that cheap restaurants offer. I’m sorry to all those who are against shark finning

Restoran Oversea is widely known for offering exquisite contemporary Chinese cuisine with special emphasis on unique Cantonese themed restaurant. Find out more about them and what they have got to offer aside from great chinese delicacies here

When seated, we were informed that they have a wide varieties of sharkfin’s soup, ranging from starch-y to soup-y. We opted for their “Hong jiu bao chi” which I dont know what it translates to (help anyone?) but it was priced about RM120 per bowl – *ouch*
*
*
But it was worth every penny. Fine pieces of purely shark’s fin and no other mixtures that might change the taste. The soup was sweetly tasty, nutritious too! The soup and fins were well braised, overall a good combination, thumbs up to the soup, in short – a mind-blowing dish!
I never used to like shark fin soup because I never think it’s worth the price until I’ve tried the ones in Gohtong Jaya, Genting.
This one just tops it all… hot and steamy, just what we needed to soothe our stomachs. *yum*
*

p/s: the “taugeh” (beansprouts) totally damaged the taste, but my mom added ‘em, claiming it ADDs on to the taste. I like mine pure though…

As we weren’t too hungry (had yong tau foo at 3pm
), we ordered their famous fried rice and steamed “sun hock” (marble goby) fish – very SCRUMPTIOUS, yo!
*
*
This is one of their special fried rice called – “wong tai tin lou wong” which is the last king of Qing dynasty’s name, I think (*shrugs, so my dad tells me lol)
In it, there’s crab meat, scallops, mushrooms, bacon pieces, egg… really rich! should try it – worth every penny
It’s really good, tasty and kind of salty but then, this is meant to eat wrapped with a piece of lettuce. SCRUMPTIOUS! the crunch of the lettuce shows that it is really fresh and with the rice, omg ultimate combo~ *heaven*
oh, oh, did I mention that it feels healthy too?? I always feel extra healthy when I’m eating raw vege.

As for the fish, we were lucky enough to have the belly part (apparently it’s the best part, but we like the fins part more)
haha the captain was so excited when he came and told us they have the belly part for us – not wanting to dishearten him, we solely accept his offer. even when the dish is served, he came all the way to our table to see it *laughrolls*
*
It is not the best soon hock fish i’ve tasted but it is indeed good. The meat is soft and fresh, and being a lover for steamed fish, the sauce plays a hugeee role.. and to me, this dish made it – double thumbs up!

At the end of our meal, we were served with my oh-so-favourite drink, the “kat chai suen mui” or else known as “kam kat” = lime juice with assam/sour plum juice. I thought I tasted the most pure and best ratio of lime juice and assam in SS2 Pasar Malam, but this one beats it!
*

*
Rich with lime and assam taste, this one definitely made my dinner even more SCRUMPTIOUS!

all in all, Overseas were really generous with the portion and fillings that come with it. I suppose they have to maintain their standard eh?
I definitely recommend this place to have a feast/family gathering. After all, what would you do with all that money sitting in the bank?
Spend it wisely, as my mom always say
Pamper yourself and your loved ones today!
