*

Dear dear dear readers,

Hi again, its me Mr.Fbb. I’ve really been slacking lately and Ms.qp has been doing most of the flogging. Im such a bad partner =( anyways sorry dear. I’ll pick up the pace.=D And what a post to kick it off. PORK! From the look of the whole menu, i can tell Mr.Ho here loves pork. This place even serves cold cuts. Anyways, the place serves lots of PORK. ^___________^ *ahh happy times.

*

Okay, for those of you who dont know, im a fatty. I love pork. even my nickname –> FBB is fat-related. xD My last name is Hoe and look up at the pic! *sigh… pork lovers UNITE !

*

*

On the left of the above pic is part of their menu, dont be fooled their menu has alot of varieties. This is just part of it. As you can see it isnt the cheapest food but its well worth it! at least for what ive tried so far bla bla bla….Seriously scroll down. I cant wait. just look at that pork ^___^

*

OMG -right?!

Okay, this is their “Crispy roast pork served with apple sauce” (siew yuk) is THE best siew yuk i have found so far. The crispy pork here is actually quite lean for those of you who cant stand the fatty-layers (Miss.qp just happened to take a close-up of the 1-2 pieces that were a little more fat). To me, what easily differentiates “crispy roast pork(s)” are the skin of the siew yuk. This siew yuk has super crispy skin, its the kind that even left alone for hours and have gone cold would still crackle in ur mouth. The skin’s taste is also quite different from the usual crispy pork (better =P ). The meat, is juicy and tasty, great as can be, and also, if u look closely, there isnt the over salted bottom layer of meat( the red-brownish part that is covered in 5-spice powder). That part is quite commonly found on crispy roast pork everywhere especially the ones from our morning markets. The sesasoning on Mr.Ho’s pork however, is just great.

*

Word of caution though, the above dish (crispy roast pork with apple sauce) only has mashed potato, stir fried cabbage, and CRISPY( good tasty yummy -ooh-la-la-) roast pork. So for those of you who needs rice/mee or something to really fill u up, u might want to order something else as your main dish and this as a shared dish. Oh , one more thing, the apple sauce, is great too. For those of you who have tried sour plum sauce (the sauce that goes with roast duck), the apple sauce tastes just like that. Sweet and sour, complementing the pork just nicely This dish costs a whopping RM18.90 but theres a whole lot more pork than in the picture. So dont worry Pork Lovers! Spend on the food u know u love

Scrumptious Level : 9.2/10

*

*

Alright, for the next dish, it is Mr.Ho’s signature curry laksa. The curry laksa here costs around RM15. Sorry about giving an estimated price (the crispy roast pork had all my attention =P). Okay, so anyways, the laksa here has Mussels, CRISPY ROAST PORK (^___^), lil fried tofu pieces and other stuffs. The mussels when i had it were fresh, the noodles – the chef uses spaghetti instead of the usual yellow mee to make this curry laksa. Personally, i think the spaghetti was a great replacement but u be the judge:)

*

The crispy roast pork although submerged in the curry as shown in the picture, still maintains the crisp in the skin. No exaggeration here. Seriously. The curry however, does get a little too-much for the taste buds. Dont get me wrong, the curry tastes great and has just the right amount of spices. But the curry is more of the milky-type giving you that nauseating feeling when u try to finish the whole bowl of curry. For those of you who love the more milky curry laksa, you should give it a try. However, it didnt get the number one spot on my laksa list.

Scrumptious level : 7.3 /10

*

I feel this place has more to offer. I will re-visit this place some time soon and when i do, i will definitely update all of u guys on the other dishes i have tried. Also, if u guys have something to add, or say , or even just to share your love for the Piggy -porky -heavenly goodness of the meat, leave a comment

*

*

Till the next scrumptious find,

Back to the Melbourne post…

*

*

Presenting……

*

The University of MELBOURNE

*

*

From top-left: the classic walkway of Old Arts Building; in front of the Union House where all the food and misc stuff are; the wanna-be professor @ the Professor’s Walk; umbrellas on a shiny day is crucial due to Melb’s unpredictable weather – this is the walkway I take everyday towards Psychology building and last but not least, mom totally blends in with the students in front of the Baillieu Library.

*

p/s: it’s quite nice to take a walk around the university if you get a chance to

*

While you’re in the city, there’s two free shuttle/tram services that will take you around the vicinity of the city. One round is approx 45 minutes; so hop on and don’t miss out on Melbourne’s great sights such as :

Southern Star Observation Wheel

the Docklands precinct

Melbourne Museum and Carlton Gardens

Queen Victoria Market

Melbourne Aquarium

Immigration Museum

Southbank

the Shrine of Remembrance

Royal Botanic Gardens

Chinatown

*

The Melbourne City Circle Tram is scheduled to arrive at designated stops every 10 minutes from 10am to 6pm daily and until 9pm Thursday to Saturday during daylight saving time.

The Melbourne City Circle Tram does not operate on Christmas Day and Good Friday.

Be aware that the city circle tram is maroon in colour and is numbered 35 just in case it’s not maroon. So don’t hop onto any other coloured trams for a free ride! If caught doing so, penalty is ~AUD$150, if not mistaken.

*

On the other hand,

The Melbourne City Tourist Shuttle operates daily every 30 minutes between 9.30am and 4.30pm, excluding Good Friday and Christmas Day. Click here for their more info on their route.

*

*

*

*

*

The Queen Victoria Market is only walking distance from Melbourne University, but mom and I still took the Melbourne City Tourist Shuttle – yeah Malaysians are QUITE lazy, I would say

*

*

Who would’ve thought the market could be so much fun? I think the lady(top right) knows I’m thinking picture so she’s smiling while selling her seafood, don’t ya reckon?

A must-visit on Saturdays as they have the other part the market open too; they sell from clothes to shoes to accessories to randoms; good for souvenir buying

A great place to buy your fruits and seafood…not the best in Melbourne but best in the city!

*

Queen Victoria (QV) Market is situated on the corner of Queen and Elizabeth Streets in the Melbourne CBD and is easily accessed by foot, car, train, tram or bus. More info here.

Melbourne City in general…

*

*

The City town hall where PlanetShakers have their sessions/events sometimes…

*

The horse-carriage ride you could hire for AUD$100 ( I forgot if it’s per hour or per ride *shrugs*) – makes you feel like cinderella, the pumpkin carriage?

*

Other than, the city is full of shops, trams, more shops and more trams.

If you wanna shop, Bourke Street is the place to go.

If you want exclusive shopping, go to Collins Street (high end shopping)

-

p/s: you can hardly get lost in Melbourne city, because it’s a freaking square!

*

*

*

*

If you happen to be in town and you’re craving for some sweet stuff, dont miss out on Crown Bakery’s Mango cake – they’re yummylicious!

*

*

Coated with egg-chiffon on the sides of the outer layer and mango puree on top, this mango cake is the best I have ever tasted – not sugarly sweet and very very fulfilling. Chocolate cake lovers will love this too! Layered between the cakes and cream are fresh mangoes; priced around AUD$26? for the whole cake, one cannot ask for more – definitely SCRUMPTIOUS!

omg – looking at it reminds me of the countless times we had this cake; be it celebration or farewell or just for leisure. missing it heaps, Melbourne peeps, tapau please??? xox

*

The other shop that duplicates this mango cake is BreadStory but I still think this one beats it anytime (biased, I know *tee-hee*)

*

*

For dinner, don’t hesitate to indulge yourself in some Italian cuisine on Lygon Street; and I would definitely recommend Mercadante for ambience, services and food (ok-ok).

*

*

The boss is a very down-to-earth guy who loves playing with the customers; top right – he playing tic-tac-toe with xn, middle left - he stole my camera to take his own pic, bottom left – he took his simpsons mask and put it on (btw, I really think the aussies love simpsons more than anyone else) and bottom right – he loves to show off the tricks he can pull (I shall not reveal here, go surprise yourself by visiting )

p/s: remember to tell him you’ve never been there! *chuckles*

*

*

Top left- salmon fettucine, top right – chicken avocado penne, bottom left – some special pizza, bottom right – the SCRUMPTIOUS chocolate pizza

The pasta sauces are very unique as they have their special mix, although it may get a bit much after a while, and the pizza is gi-normous! (so do practise chinese style eating – share~)

and their signature chocolate pizza is a must-try. pizza with nutella spread is the bomb here. but please, do drink plenty of water after

*

*

*

Across the street from Mercadante’s, there is a gelati ice cream parlour that no-one in Melbourne would not know about, i.e. Il Dolce Freddo

again, I dont have pics of the shop, but you cannot miss it, with the mass of people queueing up, especially on friday and saturday night.

A must try here is their Ferrero Rocher flavour – truly SCRUMPTIOUS!

Personally, I like their green tea, mango, boysenberry and durian flavour too! yep, durian flavour rocks~ full of flavour, taste and smell. I’ve tried the gelati in Midvalley and it’s NO-WHERE as fresh as this place.

*

*

I remember I always had a hard time choosing my flavours because for you get 2 flavours for AUD$4.80. My mind is always battling with itself prior to ordering:

*

“hmm.. Rocher is a must because i’ll regret it…and green tea la”

“but I always have Rocher…maybe have something different, like durian or boysenberry”

“but sure regret wan looking at other ppl’s Rocher…dowan green tea la then…Rocher and Durian”

“but i like green tea ice cream………Rocher and Green tea la”

“then again, not everyday they have durian and so long didnt have mango already…. k la k la Mango and Durian”

“But…”

*

Before I came to a conclusion, it’s my turn and I blurted out, “Rocher and Green tea please, thanks”

-.-”"

double -.-”"”

BUT I WANT DURIAN ALSO! *grumble*

Then I’ll leech off my friend’s one… hahhhaa

*

*

Now which one would you choose???

Calling out to all char siew (bbq pork) lovers!!

*

Have you recently satisfy your cravings for some slightly burnt juicy pork? If you haven’t check this out~

*

*

Located in Sunway MAS commercial centre in Taman Mayang, Famous Seremban Favourites shop sells Seremban’s famous food; their char siew rocks my world, and apparently their hakka mee made it to the top too (I didnt order that – wasn’t aware until after -.-” ).

*

*

The “pun fei sau” (some refers to half fat and half meat but this restaurant claims it is their 3-tier pork, i.e. skin-fat-meat-fat-meat) meat that they give is just yummylicious… words cannot describe how i feel when I bite into it hehe~

p/s: the other one that can beat this is the one along Jalan Pasar, KL (shall intro the next time )

*

The wan tan mee, on the other hand, wasn’t so great, even the char siew that comes with it is different to the one you order separately.

*

*

I also tried their “siu kai” (roast chicken) with their “yau fan” (oily rice) instead of the white one, as I have heard some good reviews on it.

*

*

Sadly, the rice didnt do it for me; too bland and not tasty at all. I think I could do better

They’re lucky they’ve got the char siew and sauce to complement it.

The chicken on the other hand, is nothing to shout about, nonetheless yummy(how wrong can it go right?).

*

*

*

Aside from the good char siew, there’s really nothing spectacular about this shop. Moreover, there is so much air of snob, there’s barely any room to breathe. Look what they gave me for my portion of roast pork:

*

*

Is that even edible??? there seriously wasn’t any meat/fat/skin………….. *grumblegrumble*

*

*

*

*

Anyhoo, you’ll probably get better treatment and better “parts” if you’re carrying a dslr camera as the owner would think that you’re a flogger (food blogger) and give you some extras/deals.

*

Priced at RM4.50 for a normal takeaway of char siew meat, I would say it’s quite pricey (moreover for a small portion).

Dont think I’ll be back anytime soon (until I get a dslr! muahahha); unless I’m around the area and craving for some good char siew

*

*

*

*

*

*

hunting for more good char siew(s) – suggestions?

Last Saturday, I had the luxury of having sharkfin’s soup for dinner. In the Chinese culture, sharkfin is considered a signature dish served at special occasions – it is a luxurious Chinese delicacy since the Ming Dynasty. Read all about it here.

Despite all the controversy over shark finning, I really cant resist the temptation of having pure sharkfin’s soup; not the starchy starchy kinds with crab meat and the rest that cheap restaurants offer. I’m sorry to all those who are against shark finning

*

*

Restoran Oversea is widely known for offering exquisite contemporary Chinese cuisine with special emphasis on unique Cantonese themed restaurant. Find out more about them and what they have got to offer aside from great chinese delicacies here

*

*

When seated, we were informed that they have a wide varieties of sharkfin’s soup, ranging from starch-y to soup-y. We opted for their “Hong jiu bao chi” which I dont know what it translates to (help anyone?) but it was priced about RM120 per bowl – *ouch*

*

*

But it was worth every penny. Fine pieces of purely shark’s fin and no other mixtures that might change the taste. The soup was sweetly tasty, nutritious too! The soup and fins were well braised, overall a good combination, thumbs up to the soup, in short – a mind-blowing dish!

I never used to like shark fin soup because I never think it’s worth the price until I’ve tried the ones in Gohtong Jaya, Genting.

This one just tops it all… hot and steamy, just what we needed to soothe our stomachs. *yum*

*

p/s: the “taugeh” (beansprouts) totally damaged the taste, but my mom added ‘em, claiming it ADDs on to the taste. I like mine pure though…

*

*

*

*

As we weren’t too hungry (had yong tau foo at 3pm ), we ordered their famous fried rice and steamed “sun hock” (marble goby) fish – very SCRUMPTIOUS, yo!

*

*

This is one of their special fried rice called – “wong tai tin lou wong” which is the last king of Qing dynasty’s name, I think (*shrugs, so my dad tells me lol)

In it, there’s crab meat, scallops, mushrooms, bacon pieces, egg… really rich! should try it – worth every penny

It’s really good, tasty and kind of salty but then, this is meant to eat wrapped with a piece of lettuce. SCRUMPTIOUS! the crunch of the lettuce shows that it is really fresh and with the rice, omg ultimate combo~ *heaven*

oh, oh, did I mention that it feels healthy too?? I always feel extra healthy when I’m eating raw vege.

*

*

*

*

*

As for the fish, we were lucky enough to have the belly part (apparently it’s the best part, but we like the fins part more)

haha the captain was so excited when he came and told us they have the belly part for us – not wanting to dishearten him, we solely accept his offer. even when the dish is served, he came all the way to our table to see it *laughrolls*

*

It is not the best soon hock fish i’ve tasted but it is indeed good. The meat is soft and fresh, and being a lover for steamed fish, the sauce plays a hugeee role.. and to me, this dish made it – double thumbs up!

*

*

*

*

At the end of our meal, we were served with my oh-so-favourite drink, the “kat chai suen mui” or else known as “kam kat” = lime juice with assam/sour plum juice. I thought I tasted the most pure and best ratio of lime juice and assam in SS2 Pasar Malam, but this one beats it!

*

*

Rich with lime and assam taste, this one definitely made my dinner even more SCRUMPTIOUS!

*

*

*

all in all, Overseas were really generous with the portion and fillings that come with it. I suppose they have to maintain their standard eh?

I definitely recommend this place to have a feast/family gathering. After all, what would you do with all that money sitting in the bank?

Spend it wisely, as my mom always say Pamper yourself and your loved ones today!

*

*

oh oh to make your day, i’ll share their great deals with you too! They are having card promotions – so feel free to show and swipe swipe swipe!

*

*

*

*

Aug is here and moon cake festival coming soon… filial sons and daughters, you know what to do

Last Friday, my makan gang felt like indulging into endless food – hence we decided to go for a buffet. Having to travel along LDP highway quite often, I cannot miss the bright sign board (which is a good advertising strategy, btw) which screams TASTY POT BBQ STEAMBOAT.

*

*

So, we decided to give it a go.

*

They have so many choices there, we had difficulty choosing. First we had to choose our drinks, then we had to choose what soup flavour we want, then we had to go pick our food – fuh~ already died of hunger by the time we decide -.-”

*

*

Priced at RM 23.80 per person, the buffet is quite worth it, I would say. Not only do they offer mixed rice kind of food (it’s actually not bad), they also have barbeque-d food such as the corn, prawns-in-a stick and the lamb.

*

*

The lamb was very good actually, accompanied with the black pepper sauce, this dish was SCRUMPTIOUS! not bad for a buffet

*

*

For the steamboat/hot pot, we decided to go for Soya Bean Soup and the classic herbal chicken soup. Other choices were: curry soya bean soup, hong kong satin porridge, “chong qing” (peppercorn) spicy soup & thai style tom yum soup.

*

*

WARNING: the soya bean soup tastes weird. it’s like you’re expecting a sweet flavour with your savoury food but…. I dont know, I think it made my tastebuds confused.

p/s: but the chicken herbal soup is really, really, reaaaaallllyy good for outside standard

*

*

Some of the food available (they have all the basics nonetheless, and more!).

*

*

oh..oh! There’s one fishball-like thing (the one on the right – below) has “otak-otak” fillings in it.. now that’s something special you ought to try! it’s really nice!

*

*

*

Sadly, not all seafood is worth eating; some was not washed properly and the scallop is not fresh – can’t expect much from RM 23.80 I suppose *shrugs*

*

*

*

But there is one specialty that you gotta try! Some say Yuen Steamboat offers better, but some say it is just as good!

It is the marmie chicken they’re talking about…!

*

*

Personally, I didn’t think it was good…Have you tried them? was it up to expectation???

*

*

Overall, the ambience was really good – food kept coming, and there was bg music too (an unfortunate couple trying to earn some donations via singing).

We chose to sit outside for better air circulation, a real ideal place to yam char/catch up with friends and family.

*

*

*

*

*

Time realy flies when you’re feasting… We stayed till almost 10.30pm and the place is still packed.. people kept coming!

*

*

*

*

*

I recommend to try this place out, if you do run out of eating places

Everyone knows Ampang is the place to go for the best yong tau foo; the famous one? This one.

*

*

Ampang Homeland Yong Tau Foo is so famous and successful that they even opened branches everywhere; e.g.Puchong, Taipan (USJ 10), etc

*

truth is: when you do expand, your quality tends to go down; I’ve tried Ampang Homeland Yong tau foo at both Puchong and Taipan branches and didnt think highly upon any…

*

*

But impressions change when I do go for the Ampang Yong tau foo…not the one above… but the one 2 shops next to the commercialized one

*

*

Restoran Foong Foong – I like this shop better because of this:

*

*

no it’s not them singing/entertaining us; but they are actually conveying our orders to the kitchen, and also asking to clear the tables which vacated.

Yes, they may be a bit left behind since there are computerized systems for orders now, but this is just so impressive!

not only they can remember the orders but their hearing must have been top-notch to be able to hear each other amongst the public noises (I could barely hear a word they’re saying!)

some may say that they have a messy system but after all, they do get the food delivered (despite being “unfriendly” – cant blame them, they’re too busy running around)

*

*

Their business is never ending, once a table leave, it will be seated by another group. Cashflow definitely coming in here!

*

The “char sui kao” (fried dumpling) was steaming hot and not greasy at all.

The fillings were very generous and they’ve also added some extras aside from just the freshly grounded fish paste (I know this because I saw them grinding the fish meat at the back of the kitchen).

*

*

Because of the crowd and rush, you are unable to pick and choose what you want from the lot. You order by how many pieces you want for the table, and you get what they give you (e.g. you may want fried beancurd more, but they may give you more of the tofu instead – it’s your luck). I suppose nothing is perfect huh?

*

*

The best thing is, everything is so fresh and additives-free! Crisp on the outside and soft in the inside….*yum*

tasty yet homemade…. Nonetheless, SCRUMPTIOUS!

*

*

Even their drinks, chrysanthemum tea, tasted so homemade, it is one place that is almost comparable to my home’s!

p/s: mom makes the best chrysanthemum tea, not too sweet, not too bitter – juuuusttt nice! *2 fingers to the lips*

*

*

All in all, this is definitely a to-eat place if you are around town. I am a sucker for homemade-like and additive-free food; I think it does take some generosity and skill to be able to make homemade food so tasty – so thumbs up for this one!

*

okay.. this may be a biiiiiiiiiiit outdated, but I was looking through some ol’ pics and decided to post up some places to visit and famous eats in Melbourne CBD – mainly attributed to sleepygal’s visit last 2 winters ago, i.e. 2007 (yeah i know, it’s ages, but things hasnt changed! much…. )

*

for those who didnt know, i have 4 besties.. and we call ourselves the gals – something that brought us through thick and thin; and also something that made our high school more memorable, exciting and fun (will introduce ‘em later). so after form 5, we split to separate paths but until today, we are still in touch and plans to be each other’s kids’ godmother (not sure how it’s gonna be yet.. lol)

*

Anyway, because the 4 of us are in melbourne, sleepygal decides to pay us a visit – here’s what our adventure looks like

*

*

Upon her arrival, we prepared a “banner” which screams sleepygal, together with our voices which ultimately caused her to walk so fast, hence the blur pic, what a WARM welcome, dont ya’ll think? trust us to do jus that

*

*

First things first, we brought her to eat. At approx 9–10pm at night, there’s nothing much to eat aside from chinatown food. So we brought her to a famous greek restaurant called STALACTITES which serves wraps till the late night. It is located at the corner of Lonsdale and Russell St (if you are in the city, you will not miss it because Melbourne is a friggin’ square! and they have st signs at every junction, which is a good thing too ). They are famous for their lamb wraps but I prefer their chicken ones.. *tee-hee*

*

*

Just look for the Lebanese House Restaurant, it’s next to it. It has a cave-y interior look you wont miss it sorry there’s no close up of the food, but it is yummy! not the best you can get in town (the best is somewhere from a truck-seller) but still a taste of Greek food! oh oh don’t forget the chips!

*

*

After a good night’s rest, we are ready for day 2! After grabbing Australian’s delicacy, SUBWAY (:p) we headed to the PIXAR exhibition held opposite the Flinders St Train Station. They always have exhibitions there, so it’s worth a visit while you’re there – it’s FREE!

*

*

can you find Nemo??? No? Just keep swimming, just keep swimming, just keep swimming swimming swimming…then *ahhh memoriess*

- From left: cycogal, sleepygal, crazygal & hypergal -

p/s: sizzlegal is missing ’cause she’s home with her family

**

Yeah, we saw boo and we couldn’t resist jumping into the prohibited area to shake his hand

*

*

Hypergal and Sleepygal showing off their stunts, can you recognize where it came from?

oh, and Melbourne’s very own Eiffel tower… *heh heh*

*

btw, these pics are taken near the South Yarra river (opposite Flinder’s Train Station too); one of the only rivers in Melbourne.

*

An interesting fact: Australia and New Zealand is a rather dry land, always suffering from drought. Read more here.

so when you do opt for home-stay while you’re here, one of the house rules they lay down for you is the ideal 7-minute shower max, if not they’ll either turn off the heater or just turn off the water supply completely (some even installed the shower heads with timer!)

Unlike Malaysians, we love our 30 min shower dont we????

*

*

*

* a lot of things happened which is better off undisclosed :p *

*

*

*

*

*

*

We had an early dinner due to the bad weather – as you can see, winter is all about rain, rain and rain. unfortunately melbourne’s rain is nothing compared to Malaysia’s – it’s merely drizzles, hence their water supply is minute. *shrugs, oh well

*

We had our dinner that night at ITO’s, a japanese cuisine at the corner of Bourke St and Russell. It is quite a small secluded shop (just look up at the signs while you’re walking up Bourke st heading towards Exhibition St direction), the taste is okay, normal japanese food for its price, ranging from AUD$10-15, depending on what you order.

*

Personally I like their unagi don hypergal decided to try their salmon, it was okay, but I prefer is semi-cooked so it’s not too dry, you can tell the waitress if your tastebuds are the same as mine sleepygal was craving for her udon at that time, and decided to go for tempura.

Overall, I think the quality of the food here is to my likings, and with its price too, it’s reasonable quality food in Melbourne CBD (unless you travel far far to the suburbs) better than the japanese here, dollar to dollar (dont lah compare to the ****/***** places)

*

*mm-mmmm

*p/s: there are a lot more small japanese shops around selling cheap take-aways and fast food, like the famous one: DonDon located at 321 Swanston Street OR 330 Little Lonsdale Street, MELBOURNE (they probably have more branches now).

They are like SUPER FAST at serving food, one minute you’re ordering, next minute you’re paying AND taking your food. It is NOT FUN working in there, I know because I was one of the “machines” that operates for their super duper fast food serving, paid at AUD$8.50 per hour.

*

Nonetheless, the food is good la..for its price (AUD$ 5.50-7) – so you’ll always see a queue of working people during lunch hour, be it asian or whites or blacks.

damn cheap for its quality actually… especially their SASHIMI DON. i dont have the pic to show you all but I can assure you that it’s fresh, the salmon fish comes in every morning and the boss goes to each branch to slice up the fish, to be arranged in a nice rose-shaped pattern on top of the rice.

oh, oh, love their chicken teriyaki too

*

*

*

*

There are seriously so man japanese cuisine in Melbourne, one can never get sick of. One of the must-try claimed-Japanese-but-originated-from-HongKong dessert shop is ICHIPAN’s crepes located at Melbourne Central (near BOOST)

*

*

they have all sorts of flavours, all sorts of combination; from bananas to green tea ice cream to nutella sauce. Mix and match your favourite crepes (hot/cold) when you’re there!

p/s: that’s my mom on the left btw

*

*

*

*

*

*

oopsies, i got so side-tracked when I talked about food :p

Anyhoooz, sleepygal, hypergal and I ended our night with Melbourne’s most desired dessert/hangout place, none-other-than MAX BRENNER’s!!!

Max Brenner’s is a chocolate dessert place which represents THE CHOCOLATE CULTURE of all times. Read more about Max Brenner, a bald man’s love story towards chocolate here

Meanwhile, here are some pics of my experiences with the bald man. Enjoy~

*

*

omg, i miss them so much!

- From left: the belgian waffle with sides, vanilla ice cream and strawberry.

the chocolate dip with strawberries (my fav! get to feel the true taste of the chocolate mm-mmm).

the oh-so-rich chocolate brownie (very satisfying for chocolate cravings ~yum!).

the chocolate iceshakes/smoothie on their Drink-Me trademark cup – comes in a lotta flavours e.g. banana chocolate, oreo cookie & peanut butte; all with chocolate obviously

(they also have the Hug-Me cups for hot drinks).

and the final one is special – it’s called ‘suckao‘, which I dont know why, but it’s basically milk and choco bits melted to your own liking. you get to choose which choc flava you want – dark, milk or white chocolate and then u melt it, either with addition of milk or not.

*

SCRUMPTIOUS!

*

*

Price wise – a biiiiiiiiiit pricy but heck, it’s worth a pamper once in a while Definitely a not-to-miss when you’re new in town!

*

*

*

*

*

Will be back for more – stay tuned!

IT WAS A DISAPPOINTMENT OF MY LIFE!

*

mr.fbb and I used to be a big fan of Madam Kwan’s especially when we feel like nasi-lemak-like food. I remember our first time there – mom brought us to the one in Pavilion shopping mall and it was finger-licking-licious! The fried chicken totally blew our mind~! I’m sure a lot of people would second us on that.

*

*

*

Madam Kwan is a Malaysian cuisine restaurant serving Malaysia’s delicacies at a higher price than the normal road side stalls.

Ever since mr.fbb tried their oh-so-famous Nasi Bojari, everytime you ask him what he wants to eat (especially in a shopping mall), he will say, “Madam Kwan’s mou” and gives that hungry eager look of his.

*

*

I don’t know why he still bothers looking at the menu because we already know what’s ze best there – Nasi Bojari with their Ice Lemon Tea. mom claims that their ice lemon tea is the best she ever tasted (mind you, she ALWAYS order ice lemon tea if given a choice).

*

*

You get to put in the honey sugar concentration yourself as each and everyone’s liking for sweetness differ. I really like this idea – maybe this is why it sells. Look at the other tables:

*

*

Suprise surprise ~ non other than ice lemon tea and nasi bojari/nasi lemak at each and almost every table

*

*

Their nasi bojari comes with the crispy fried chicken, crunch on the outside, soft in the inside – that’s why they’re so in demand. But, as i said, it was a disappointment on that day in the Midvalley branch because despite its crispness on the outside, the inside was tasteless. It was wayyyy different from our first experience… After a while, I actually feel a bit “jelak” – too much! it was greasy and fatty and ugh~ mr fbb, who refuses to believe that the quality has gone bad, still managed to clean his plate, as always, ALTHOUGH he would’ve cleaned the chicken more if it was scrumptious ( yeah he is damn pro at eating chicken, who is up for some competition, do let me know).

*

*

*

*

Hopefully it’s only because there were so many people

(if you go to Midvalley on the weekends, you can never fail to see a queue outside the shop during meal times – I was part of that once *tee-hee*)

that they didn’t get to marinate their chicken long enough. Other than that, it comes with assam prawn sambal (they’re sweet and nice ) and beef/chicken rendang (to your choice) as well as the normal nasi lemak sides, i.e. the egg and cucumber.

*

btw, their rice (i.e. nasi in Malay) is quite different as it is not the normal white rice. It is called coloured mixed briyani rice which gives a hint of spice taste, quite nice but quite dry in this instance. the rendang was usually very saucy and nice, but that day, it was a failure Their assam prawn sambal, however, is really good, tasted yum to the eye, even better in the mouth

*

*

Priced at ~RM21.50 per plate, I would say it’s worth it, before I had this bad experience. Now, I’m not too sure anymore….

Just very thankful that I did not suffer from any diarrhea or food poisoning after that meal.

*

*

Nonetheless, I love their ice lemon tea!

*

By far the best burgers I’ve tried is in Melbourne, first introduced by my friend J.Soledad (she got me so addicted, i miss it so much now that I’m back in Malaysia )

*

*

Albeit being called a healthy burger, Grill’d offers quality, fresh, healthy, meal-sized burgers made from 100% beef, chicken breast, lamb and veggie patties. Part of the Grill’d experience is watching the delicious, made-to-order burgers being cooked on the flame grill and ‘dressed’ with fresh ingredients. They are truly the best and healthiest, not to mention humongous, burgers I’ve eaten so far

*

*

This is my absolute favourite, called the BIRD n BRIE. It’s chicken patty with its layers and layers of fillings – what I like about it is the cranberry jam which comes with it (you must be thinking savoury + sweet?!??!) but you absolutely have to try it!! It deserves the calling of SCRUMPTIOUS~ *mm-mmm*

*

*

Look at all the ingredients spewing out of the burger.. they definitely are generous with their servings aren’t they? makes me hungry……. *stomach grumbles*oh, did i mention that their sauces are homemade too???

*

And they get really creative with the dressing as well… that’s why it’s worth every penny of yours! One of the things that attract me is their choice of mixture, because I’m into cooking, so anything delicious with herbs/spices catches my eyes, well, nose and tastebuds in this case

*

*

The best part about Grill’d is you don’t get that feeling of crapiness or greasiness after finishing off a traditional burger plus it’s 95% fat free. Girls usually jump at anything that says FAT-FREE, don’t you agree?

*

When ordering, you have a choice of bread (sort of like Subway, but this is much more satisfying than Subway) plain or with sesame (definitely with sesame!) and there are also a wide variety of selections of burgers – browse through them here.

*

Priced at an average of AUD$10, some may say that this burger is overrated – but definitely not this lad here! a BIG fan! not of burgers… just Grill’d. *tee-hee*

*

*

*

I wonder when will I be able to satisfy my cravings for some Grill’d again… hopefully someone will franchise it here.

A million-dollar business people!

*

*

Just like how both SUBWAY and BOOST made it back here…..

*

btw, for those who wasn’t aware, BOOST is a yoghurt-mix-ice-cream refreshment that is very famous amongst the Aussies

*

and SUBWAY is a healthy sandwich place with lotsa choices (you have to choose from the type of bread to the fillings, all the way to the dressings and additional of salt & pepper) – ideal for those who don’t have the time to cook/make their own sandwiches very popular amongst ladies who cant eat much because they can split a foot long sandwich into 4! how economical…
